Ein riesiges Dankeschön an alle Bootsbesitzer und das Hafenteam für die Unterstützung von Peel PinkMarina! ⛵️🚤⚓️🛥️🤩 Wir hatten unglaubliche 24 Boote, die mit Wimpeln geschmückt waren - und das Feedback war überwältigend. So viele Leute haben erwähnt, wie schön die Boote und der Yachthafen aussahen. Ich glaube wirklich, dass wir einen echten Eindruck gemacht und fantastische positive Aufmerksamkeit auf Bewusstsein für Brustkrebs gelenkt haben! 💗 Gut gemacht alle zusammen - was für eine Teamleistung! 🙌

Morgenlicht am Horizont während wir von Tresco Isles of Scilly nach Arklow, Irland aufbrechen. Anderthalb Tage und 174 Seemeilen pures Champagner-Segeln. Zwei Sonnenaufgänge, zwei Sonnenuntergänge, und perfekter achterliche Wind ließen uns zum allerersten Mal unseren symmetrischen Spinnaker mitten auf der Keltischen See hissen. Wir waren ziemlich oft von einer Schule Delfine umgeben, sogar einem Baby 🫶🏻🐬, und ein Trauerschnäpper🐦⬛gesellte sich zu uns für die Nacht. Gerade ein paar herrliche Tage auf den Isles of Scilly verbracht - von einer E‑Bike-Tour rund um St Mary's Island, wo wir die sandigen Strände und wilde Natur genossen, bis hin zur Segelpassage zum Ankerplatz New Grimsby und einem Besuch auf Tresco Island. Die Höhepunkte? Ein Besuch im Tresco Abbey Garden, um die außergewöhnlichen Pflanzen 🪴 🌴 und die einzigartigen Valhalla-Schiffsfigurenköpfe zu bewundern - die sind ein echter Hingucker! Dann steuerten wir mit unserem Beiboot auf Bryher zu, wo wir ein Hummer 🦞 Abschiedsdinner genossen und dabei unseren Elektro-Außenborder aufluden (die Strömungen sind hier sehr stark 😅), am Dämmerung über die ruhige Insel schlenderten und den Sonnenuntergang 🌅 vom Deck der Lagertha ⛵️ beobachteten, bevor wir uns früh aufmachten zu einer 39‑stündigen Überfahrt zurück nach Arklow an der irischen Küste. Mussten für ein paar Tage im Hafen von Penzance anlegen, weil der Wind ein bisschen Ärger gemacht hat, aber wir haben daraus einen echten Cornwall-Urlaub gemacht! 🌊 Wir lebten an Bord der Lagertha, und der Hafen war voll. Ein anderer Westerly Oceanlord lag direkt neben uns - tolle Gesellschaft. 🚤 Wir holten unsere E‑Bikes raus und verbrachten einen ganzen sonnigen Tag mit der Erkundung von St Michael's Mount Schloss, dem Garten, dem Weg bei Ebbe und einem Sonnenuntergang-Dinner mit Blick auf das Schloss, das uns sprachlos zurückließ. 🌅 An den nächsten Tagen fuhren wir nach Moushole für Kaffee mit Eis, hielten in Newlyn für frisches Krabbenbrötchen und besorgten noch ein paar Austern fürs Abendessen. Wir aßen auch bei @mackerelskyseafoodbar. Wir haben gerade eine 36-stündige Fahrt von Arklow nach St Martin auf den Isles of Scilly beendet. Nebel hat uns am Anfang umhüllt, aber bald aufgeklart, und das Meer blieb ruhig für unser erstes Übernachttörn an Bord der Lagertha. Mit wenig Wind sind wir den Großteil der Strecke motorsegelt, um unser 5-Knoten-Ziel zu erreichen – trotzdem ein tolles Abenteuer. Über die Irish Sea von Port Erin auf der Isle of Man nach Dún Laoghaire in Irland. Nicht gerade viel Wind zum Spielen, also war es eher eine Motorsegelfahrt ⛵️ Ehrlich gesagt, ist ein bisschen Motorunterstützung manchmal sehr willkommen! Das Beste? Heute kein Segeln, aber wir haben die Segel gegen… nun, Skateboards eingetauscht! 🛹 Wir haben den Nachmittag damit verbracht, der absolut verrückten WDSC World Downhill Skateboard Championship hier auf der Isle of Man zuzusehen. Ernsthaft, die Geschwindigkeit, die die Jungs (und Mädchen!) erreicht haben, war wahnsinnig. Wirklich beeindruckende Fähigkeiten (und Mut!). Also dann, ein bisschen Geschichte und hohe See heute! 👋 Wir sind einfach mal rund um die Galeón Andalucía hier in Douglas auf der Isle of Man spaziert, und wow, was für ein Schiff! Wirklich beeindruckend, einen maßstabsgetreuen Nachbau eines spanischen Galeons aus dem 17. Jahrhundert direkt im Hafen zu sehen. Es ist wie eine echte Zeitkapsel – man riecht förmlich die Gewürze und hört die Geschichten vergangener Reisen. Wir haben ewig die Decks erkundet und uns das Leben als Seefahrer damals vorgestellt. Definitiv nicht so glamourös wie das Leben an Bord der Lagertha, das kann ich euch sagen! 😂 Es ist schon ein Kontrast, das hier neben unserer treuen Westerly Oceanlord zu sehen, aber beide haben auf ihre eigene Art ihren Reiz. Der zweite Abschnitt unserer Reise über die Irische See in Richtung Isle of Man – gute Planung, um dorthin zu kommen! 🌊 Motorsegelnd bis Holyhead, die Gezeiten drückten uns mit sagenhaften 10 Knoten, bis wir das TSS verließen. Aber sobald wir das TSS verlassen hatten, ging der Motor aus und der Wind frischte schön auf bei 70-80 Grad und vielleicht 15 Knoten oder so?⛵️ Ohne laufenden Motor ist es viel angenehmer. Mit voll ausgefahrenen Segeln cruisend gaben uns das einen soliden Durchschnitt von sechs Knoten Richtung Chicken Rock Lighthouse und dem Drinking Dragon 🐉 an der Südspitze der IOM. Als wir nordwärts drehten, war der Wind einfach nicht stark genug für Vorwindsegeln. Wir haben es geschafft, uns nach zwei großartigen Monaten in Pwllheli loszureißen – ein lieblicher Ort für eine Pause! Lagertha hat einige ernsthafte Wantwerk-Pflege bekommen, während wir am Dock lagen: eine nagelneue stehende Takelage, neue Kettplatten und ein paar glänzende Upgrades 🙌🏻 inklusive einer Stagsegel-Rolleinrichtung, und ein neues Verdeck sowie eine neue Cockpitenclosure ist auch drauf – das alte hat im Dezembersturm 2024 ganz schön abbekommen! Nun geht es zurück zur IOM mit 20 Knoten wahrem Wind von vorn, während wir durch die Bardsey Sound 📍 vor North Wales ballern. Sag ich euch, die Wellen haben heute nicht mitgemacht – kreuz und quer und in diesen Videos definitiv nicht in ihrer wahren Höhe zu sehen! Es fühlte sich ein bisschen an, als würde man in einer Waschmaschine herumgeschleudert 🤪. Nachdem wir aber aus diesem Sprudelabschnitt raus waren – Motor ausgeschaltet nach dem Setzen der Genua. Das Getriebe auf Rückwärts gestellt (klassische Max-Prop-Falt-Aufgabe)... und dann ließ sich der Hebelschalter nicht wieder in den Neutralstand bringen 🤯! Musste die Propellerwelle manuell mit den Händen drehen, um das Ganze zu sortieren – definitiv ein kleiner Notfallmoment 😐. "Getriebe-Untersuchung" wanderte auf unsere To-do-Liste. Als Nächstes – die Genua rollte nicht ganz ein! Scheinbar fehlten nach der ganzen Wantwerkarbeit ein paar Umdrehungen auf der Trommel, besonders wenn sie bei stärkerem Wind fest gerollt ist. Jedenfalls sind wir im Ankerplatz Porthdinllaen angekommen 😌 und es war ein wunderschöner sonniger Abend – perfekt zum Erholen von der See, ein paar extra Umdrehungen auf der Genu-Rolleinrichtung dranzumachen und unser nächstes Etappenziel zurück zur Isle of Man zu planen. ☀️ Diesem herrlichen Tag konnte ich einfach nicht widerstehen, während wir auf die Fertigstellung von Lagerthas Wantwerk warten! Und neues Verdeck+Cockpitenclosure 🛠️ Aber mit dem Boot vorübergehend außer Gefecht brauchte ich ein Abenteuer! Zum Glück schien die Sonne, und ich tauschte Segel gegen Räder! 🚴♀️ Ich kramte meinen Biker-Leder-Outfit hervor – fühlte mich ein bisschen rebellisch und bereit loszulegen! – und raste über die Halbinsel von Pwllheli nach Nefyn, wo wir vor Kurzem noch ankerten. 💨 Die Hügel des Landes riefen! ⛰️ Es war eine fantastische Fahrt – wie ein moderner Pirat auf zwei Rädern! – mit dem Duft von frisch gemähtem Gras in der Luft und atemberaubenden Ausblicken um jede Kurve. Porth Dinllaen nach St Tudwal's Island (Mittagspause) und schließlich nach Pwllheli! Wir verließen den schönen Ankerplatz bei Porth Dinllaen und setzten Kurs auf Pwllheli, wo Lagertha neues Wantwerk bekommt. Obwohl die Sonne schien, sahen wir kaum etwas – dichter Nebel die ganze Strecke. 😶🌫️🌞 Die Bardsey Sound war eine echte Herausforderung! Bekannt für reißende Gezeiten, Overfalls und wilde Strömungen. Noch aufregender durch nahezu null Sicht, aber zum Glück fast kein Wind und eine eher ruhige See. Das Radar wurde ordentlich beansprucht, und das Boot schlug mehr als einmal scharf ein, als die sehr starken Gezeitenströme übernahmen. Hat uns definitiv auf Trab gehalten! 💨🌊 Unsere Planung war richtig – unter ungünstigen Bedingungen wären wir da nicht gerne gewesen. Wir mussten auch scharf nach Hummerkörben Ausschau halten. Schwer zu erkennen, wenn man in einer Wolke segelt. 🦞 Kurz bevor wir an St Tudwal's Island für unsere Mittagspause ankamen, lichtete sich der Nebel und die Sonne kam voll heraus. Ein wunderschöner sonniger Tag zum Anker und Durchatmen, bevor wir die Tide in die Pwllheli Marina abpassten. Um 4 Uhr aufgestanden und von Port St Mary losgefahren, um die schnelle Tide um Anglesey herum zu erwischen. Heutige Segelpassage von Peel nach Port St Mary war ein richtig toller Shake-down-Trip! 😎 Wir sind durch den Sound of Calf gefahren – eine enge Passage mit einigen tricky Strömungen, die einen auf Trab halten – aber es war die Aussicht auf den Drinking Dragon Felsen absolut wert. 🐉 Das Wetter hat auch super mitgespielt: kühl, trocken und genau genug Brise, um es spannend zu halten. 🌬️ Jetzt sicher eingemoot und bereit für den nächsten Abschnitt nach North Wales. ⛵ #SailingLife #IsleOfMan #CalfSound #ShakedownCruise #DrinkingDragon

⛵ Bangor to Peel, Isle of Man: Rolling to Rest Early start today to catch the Donaghadee Sound tide just right. We had some nice downwind sailing, but the Irish Sea was seriously rolling! Had to keep the pace up to make the flap gate at Peel Marina, where Lagertha will get a well-deserved rest-and so will we! Both down with a cold, so we'll be taking some time off. ⛵ North Channel Crossing to Glenarm: A Lesson in Patience and Timing Good planning is everything when crossing the North Channel-wind and tide need to line up perfectly. We set off with a southerly wind, knowing it would turn westerly by the time we reached the tide running in our favor, from north to south. The sea state was rough at the start, with the tide and wind against us. But Lagertha, our trusty boat, handled the challenging conditions like a champ. We were tacking south with our stay sail, making little progress and fighting the tide. Then, just as we were about to complete a tack, we noticed we were still on the same heading. For a moment, we were confused-had something gone wrong? But no, it was the wind shift we'd been waiting for, arriving so abruptly that it took us by surprise. With the shift, we enjoyed a smooth 45°-60° sail down to Glenarm, this time with our genoa. The final stretch was a mixed bag of calm winds, squalls, heavy rain, and bursts of sunshine. ⛵ Ardfern to Port Ellen: Escaping the Gale "Prison" After days of hiding from stronger winds and gales in Ardfern, it started to feel like a prison. The constant battle of wind against tide was wearing us down. Today, the wind was lighter but still right on the nose and against the tide-at least we were spared the rain and had some sunshine! We decided to give our stay sail a try, thinking the gusts around 20 knots were ideal for testing. And wow, we're in love with it now! We set the autopilot to 30° on the wind, and Lagertha sailed like a dream. If only we'd tried it earlier on this trip 😅. Now, we're back to hiding from the next gale in Port Ellen, sipping on whisky and waiting for a good weather window to cross the North Channel to Ireland. If you're looking to train for heavy weather sailing, West Scotland in August is the place to be! We've only had a couple of nice days between all the strong winds and gales. ☀️ Yet Another "Summer" Day in West Scotland! Ah, summer in West Scotland-where the weather always keeps you guessing! We started with rough seas and squalls, battling winds up to 28 knots. Things finally eased up south of Easdale, where the wind dropped to 12 knots. As we navigated the tricky Sound of Luing and Dorus Mor, the wind played its usual tricks. And just when we needed it for downwind sailing up Loch Craignish, it vanished altogether. To add some excitement, we had none other than Princess Anne herself just behind us as we entered Loch Craignish. After all that, we treated ourselves to a delicious venison steak from the Kerrera farm shop. ⛵ Two Days in Oban and Kerrera Spent two days exploring Oban and Kerrera. We had a farewell dinner with our friends and buddy boat crew from Kutani @farr.a.way The next day, we took a water taxi to Oban, enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast, did some tourist shopping, and walked to McCaig's Tower & Battery Hill. We also visited the distillery before heading back to Lagertha for a posh dinner with local oysters and crab, topped off by a rainbow over Oban. ⛵ Journey from Loch na Droma Buidhe to Loch Aline 🌩️🌤️ Our day started early when a nearby boat dragged its anchor and drifted uncomfortably close. We spent the night in the cockpit from 1:30 am until 5:30 am, keeping an eye on things until they finally moved elsewhere. After a morning thunderstorm, we set off from Loch na Droma Buidhe, facing upwind gusts up to 30 knots. By evening, the weather turned in our favor, and we enjoyed a sunny downwind sail with full sails out. ⛵ Heading South to Droma Buidhe We started with a good sail before switching to motor sailing for the second half. The highlight? A massive dolphin sighting that lasted about 25 minutes as they played at our bow! We anchored in Droma Buidhe with our buddy sailors on SY Kutani @farr.a.way , enjoyed a BBQ, and had some delicious venison kebabs from Inverie. We were also hiding from strong winds in the anchorage, but the night wasn't restful-a nearby boat's anchor dragged, keeping us on watch in the cockpit until 5:30 am when they finally moved. 🌬️ Stormy Day at Anchor 🌊 While snuggled up in our bunks, the wind began to howl, reaching gusts over 30 knots. We stayed vigilant with our #vespercortex anchor watch system. To our starboard side, we had a massive 64m super yacht, and in front of us, a twin-masted French brigantine tall ship dragged its anchor, drifting close to our port side. Thankfully, the tall ship's crew kept the situation under control. We filled the morning with anchor watch duties, and the afternoon was spent working in our bumpy boat office. Early start from Peel Bay to be at the entrance of Strangford Narrows at the right time to catch the last of the ingoing current. We did a whopping 12 knots over ground 🤪 Very calm sea but still spectacular eddies and whirlpools to see in the narrows while heading for Portaferry Marina. Leg 4 Around the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 From Ramsey to Peel around the Point of Ayre. Through the sandbanks and dangerous overfalls in 23 Kn of winds and about 3.5m waves 🌊 (well planned with the tides, though). A bit a rough ride at the beginning but a nice downwind sailing towards our home berth in Peel, finishing our Isle of Man circumnavigation at about 16:30.

Leg 3 Around the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 After a good breakfast we left Port St. Mary and headed to Douglas. The tide was in our favour and pushed us around Langness Point with about 3.5 Kn (6.5 through water 10 over ground). Arrived in Douglas bay under sail, it was just enough time to prepare some small nibbles for the Red Arrows aerobatics display. Then the wind was gone and we motored close to Laxey beach up to Maughold Head, where we were able to sail into Ramsey bay to a lovely evening on a buoy close to the Ramsey Pier.

Leg 2 of around #isleofman #sailing A short ride from #PortErin to #PortStMary through the Calf Sound between Kitterland Island and Thousla Rock. The tide can be up to 7 Kn here, we had a 2 Kn push in our direction (well planned!). Then, a selfie with the #thedrinkingdragon 🐉, heading to Port St Mary afterwards for lunch (own sourced and #smokedmakrels) and a overnight stay. #cruising
